Overview
For just a few months over summer, Ben Lomond Lodge is available for individual bookings for mountain bikers and e-mountain bikers.
Mountain biking to Ben Lomond Lodge is an epic adventure and the routes on Ben Lomond Station link well with other Queenstown Mountain Bike Club trails. Our comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen and hot showers provide a welcome reward for negotiating the adventurous ride in. For those wishing to explore further on foot from Ben Lomond Lodge, a multi night stay creates the opportunity to explore a range of day walks of varying length and difficulty (from 4-20km in length). For very experienced mountain bikers there are additional routes through which to further explore the station, and as keen mountain bikers your hosts will enjoy sharing these with you.
Itinerary
- Ben Lomond Station Farm Road and The Point Track – 12km, 600m elevation gain
Grade 4 advanced - This route is half 4wd and half rugged farm road, with a number of significant climbs and steep descents. Access from Moke Lake (14km from Queenstown)
- This ride will be enjoyed by those who relish a true challenging back country ride, with sustained climbs, sections of pushing (even for e-bikes), and spectacular views. There is limited cell coverage and much has no road access so competence with trail side repairs and experience in the back country is essential.
- Ride 2km further up the valley to best access the spectacular private hiking routes, or if you’re enjoying the big climbs of Ben Lomond Station a challenging full day ride can take you right out to Stony Creek Hut and return
- Choose between a beautiful moderate beech forest walk (6-10km), or spectacular ridge line views (or link together for a full day out).
Highlights
- Mountain bikers and E-Mountain Bikers can reach Ben Lomond Lodge via two main routes: departing from Arthur’s Point or from Moke Lake
- Our routes connect well with ‘Gold Digger’, Lake Dispute and Phoenix, and for advanced riders looking for an epic adventure: ‘Missing Link’ to the Ben Lomond Saddle.
- These are true adventure rides – taking you deep into the back country on rugged trails and tracks, with significant climbs and descents.
- Option to add on linen ($30) to minimise your load – only carry your clothes, food, bike repair and safety gear.
- Bag transfers from Moke Lake available by arrangement
- E-Bike charging available at a small additional cost
